Technology Membership

Through a multi-State membership model, NESCSO facilitates State access to an open-sourced application, MAGI in the Cloud. This tool determines Medicaid Program and Children’s Health Insurance Program income eligibility based on the modified adjusted gross income (“MAGI”) calculation as defined by the Affordable Care Act, both as a web interface and as an Application Programming Interface.

The MAGI Software was developed by BlueLabs, LLC, through grant funding from the State Health Reform Assistance Network, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded program, and under the direction of the CMS Entrepreneurs Program.

NESCSO, in concert with CMS, has determined that the MAGI Software is a cost-effective solution for public entities in determining eligibility for the Medicaid Program. States can access the MAGI Software by becoming a member of NESCSO’s MAGI in the Cloud community. Membership provides access to technical consulting and support services. Two states, New Jersey and Tennessee, are currently using the tool and have incorporated it in their eligibility determination processes.
